ORLANDO (May 17, 2010) – As part of its ongoing Relief-Rebuild-Sustain program for Haiti, the Harris Rosen Foundation will hold a food drive on Saturday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rosen Centre hotel on International Drive. The Foundation is seeking the following food items: canned food such as vegetables, meat and fish; manual can openers; powdered milk; peanut butter; cooking oil in small to medium bottles; sugar; rice and dry beans in 10 lb. bags or less; pasta; baby food; baby cereal; baby formula; and baby diapers. The Foundation is not accepting clothing or shoes at this time.

“We hope that as locals and visitors get out and enjoy their beautiful Saturday in Orlando on May 22, they will take a few moments to stop by Rosen Centre to drop off some canned or dry foods or baby items to help our brothers and sisters who are still suffering in Haiti,” said Harris Rosen, President and COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts and founder of the Harris Rosen Foundation. “There is still so much that needs to be done in Haiti to improve the citizens’ quality of life.”

Donations can be made at Rosen Centre, located at 9840 International Drive on Saturday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Items will be collected in the Signature 1 ballroom, located in the conference area in the back of the hotel. Parking for donors is available in the self-parking lot behind the hotel and members of the Harris Rosen Foundation task force will personally deliver the food items during their next Haiti relief trip scheduled for early June.

Those who wish to support Haiti relief efforts may also make monetary donations to the Harris Rosen Foundation. One hundred percent of donations go to the Haiti Relief-Rebuild-Sustain program, which includes the delivery of supplies as well as the Little Haiti House project which will provide housing opportunities for families in Haiti. All donations are tax deductible. Checks may be made payable to the Harris Rosen Foundation, memo: Haiti Program, and mailed to: The Harris Rosen Foundation, 9840 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819. Credit card payments may be made via Pay Pal online at: www.RosenHotels.com/Haiti.

The Harris Rosen Foundation continues to make progress on its Little Haiti House project which will provide small, low-cost earthquake and hurricane-resistant family homes to those who were left homeless by the January earthquake in Haiti. The Harris Rosen Foundation is currently working with several organizations to assist with land acquisition for the homes. It is also working with Haiti community leaders to find a family to move into a prototype home and provide feedback on the design before additional homes are built.

The Little Haiti House and the Relief-Rebuild-Sustain program are funded through the Harris Rosen Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. At least one third of Rosen Hotels & Resorts’ associates are of Haitian descent, and the hotelier has funded various Haitian relief efforts throughout the last decade. Shortly after the Jan. 12 earthquake, Rosen set out to raise at least $1 million and collect urgently needed medical supplies. Within weeks, Rosen sent a task force to Haiti to deliver 25,000 pounds of supplies such as antibiotics, palettes of batteries and flashlights, towels, hygiene items including 50,000 bars of soap, first-aid kits and other emergency items.

Due to its competitive wages and outstanding associate benefit program, including the onsite Rosen Medical Center, wellness programs, continuing education and language development programs, Rosen Hotels & Resorts has one of the lowest associate turnover rates in the hotel industry. Funding from the Harris Rosen Foundation has allowed for the creation of the Tangelo Park Project, which provides free preschool, college and vocational education to disadvantaged youth; the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management; and the Jack and Lee Rosen Southwest Orlando Jewish Community Center. The Foundation also contributes to numerous charitable organizations throughout Central Florida and beyond each year.

The Rosen Hotels & Resorts family includes three award-winning convention properties, Rosen Plaza, Rosen Centre and Rosen Shingle Creek, and four leisure properties in the Orlando tourist corridor, including the Quality Inn International, Quality Inn Plaza and Rodeway Inn International and Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista.
